“Rachel.” Said a husky, yet high-pitched voice, It was Kristine Hummel, she was a transgender hoping to look more like how she felt she was meat to me.
Rachel looked up at her with two shoulder pads in her hands, “You got the binder, Kris, now time for the clothers!” she cheered supportively.
“Kris is cute, but I prefer Kurt.” She…he corrected, playing with his overgrown hair.
His hair was tied up and his angular face was devoid of makeup. He looked already masculine enough to pass for a boy, yet he seemed to carry an air of femininity with him. Je fixed the binder shyly, as if flattened unwanted breasts.
“Kurt…” Rachel tried it out, “THE NAME OF A STAR!” she cheered optimistically. She knew that the newly named Kurt, needed support. He came to her last year during the first year of Glee club, and came out as a transgender. Born Kristine Hummel, he wanted to now be called Kurt Hummel.
She successfully tore apart one of her dads blazers, and found two shoulder pads. Kurt looked confused and she animatedly explained, “It will make your shoulders look wider and more angular!”
She and Kurt sewed in the shoulder pads to one of her dad’s shirts, to test it out. Kurt swiftly put on the shirt and saw as delicate pale shoulders became, masculine and large. For once she had the body she always wanted.
Kurt looked at Rachel with determination; “You said you can cut hair, right?”
“Kurt, would I ever lie to you? I specialize in men’s hair, helping my dad with trims and stuff. I could layer your hair and cut it short no problem, I even have the right shears.” She said, hands on her pronounced hips
Soon after, Rachel started to clip medium length hair until it was short and scruffy looking. Kurt was smart enough to bring a bag or hair products and soon the styling began. He put it into a neat, tall coif, it just added to his character.
“Wow, Kurt… you… look so handsome.” She said gently.
When Kurt looked in the mirror he knew his friend was lying. Tears fell down pale cheeks, for once in his life, he was happy with what he saw in the mirror: a handsome young man.
“I’m not going to McKinley on Monday…” Kurt said a bit solemnly.
“What…why?” Rachel asked standing up to her full height in surprise, which Kurt quickly towered her looking down.
“Dave’s bullying is becoming too much, calling me a dyke, pushing me into things, he seems to blur the line between girl and boy with me.” Kurt said sounding actually a bit victorious.
“So… where are you going to go?”
“Dalton.”
“Wait… Did I hear correctly? Dalton?”
“Yes, my dad registered me as Kurt Hummel.”
“Wow, Kurt, all gay teens would want a dad like yours.”
Kurt sighed and smiled for his luck, “My dad, I have to admit, was a bit confused at first. He didn’t exactly understand why I would make that decision, but with Carole’s help he’s beginning to loosen up and get that…he has a son, not a daughter.”
“He has a big heart, you know.” Rachel told him, “Not many parents, at all, would even accept that.”
“You don’t need to tell me twice Rachel.” He said matter-of-Factly.
The school was good for Kurt, a strict anti-bullying policy, no female distraction, and a singing group known as the warblers. Singing was a good outlet for Kurt.
Kurt was attracted to smart girls, who can, preferably, sing with him. At first he had a crush on Rachel, but after she opened her mouth, he found her way to high strung for his tastes. Regardless, she was a fantastic friend and helped the boy find himself, within the female body.
“Thank you, Rachel.”
“Remember, Kri-Kurt, I’m a phone call away.”
“Yes, Dad, I know.” Kurt reminded his dad, Burt. He smiled at his still confused dad, but just knowing he had his support was good enough for Kurt.
Finn helped him take his things out his car and reacted to Kurt’s change with a blunt, “I always wanted a little brother.” He smiled at Kurt and patted his back.
“Glee club won’t be the same without Mercedes’s partner-in-crime, no one will be able to fill your space, got that?” Finn reminded Kurt hoping he would understand that.
Kurt understood easily reassuring Finn he felt no threat. He hugged his family, entering the building thinking of the friend he had already made: Blaine Anderson. He felt so at home with him, he sobbed and told him his situation, Blaine held his hand and explained that he felt his pain.
Kurt looked at the dorm papers, and counted the numbers on the doors. He bumped into some warblers who had heard of him through Blaine. They greeted him happily and wished him luck on his audition.
Kurt had to admit, he was pretty excited, since he could hit notes that boys usually couldn’t. He fixed his hair, and continued his journey.
He found the door and took the keys out of his pants. He sat down his Marc Jacobs bag, and opened the door. He froze in shock but he was disappointed.
Where he was expecting a very male, Blaine, he saw a very feminine, beautiful even, Blayne. She was dressed in a cute yellow sundress, her curls loose surrounding her angular face, lips color a dusty pink, and eyelashes so thick, she was the envy of all girls.
“Blaine?” Kurt questioned, quickly sauntering in with his bags.
“Well… surprise, hah.” She said quickly, looking away.
“Hmm…expecting my reaction to be dramatic? Want me to toss something on the floor and question your way of life?”
“How anti-climatic. Well now were one in the same. You’re Kurt Hummel, and ‘m B-L-A-Y-N-E Anderson.” Blayne explained folding her hairless arms.
Kurt felt like the luckiest Kid in the world, someone to support, and someone to support him. “Blayne, huh, that’s cute.” He said chuckling.
He and Blayne talked for hours and became good friends. Blayne jumped excitedly at Kurt’s offer, “You’d really do that for me? Make me clothes?” she asked clapping excitedly.
“Sure, why wouldn’t I?” he said smiling at his new best friend.
Blayne hugged the boy in front of him; it was the start of a beautiful friendship.
